Adult ADHD-Autism Evaluations
Virtual Through All of VA & FL
Most adults who come to me have spent a long time suspecting something, and waiting for someone to take it seriously. If you've spent years wondering why certain things are harder for you than they seem to be for everyone around you, an evaluation gives you the thing no one has handed you yet: an actual answer.
I'm Katherine Illgen, LCSW, a neurodivergent clinician who provides comprehensive ADHD, autism, and AuDHD evaluations for adults. This isn't about collecting a label. It's about finally having accurate language for experiences you've been managing your whole life without explanation, and walking away with documentation you can actually use.
Getting a Real Answer Is the First Step
You don't have to prepare anything. There are no trick questions, no right answers, and no way to fail. We find a time that works, and I walk you through the whole process.
For a lot of adults, the moment of clarity is the part that sticks, someone looking closely at your actual experience and saying "yes, this is real, and here's what it is." From there, the answer becomes something you can do something with: a conversation with a prescriber, a request for accommodations, or simply understanding yourself accurately for the first time.
You've waited long enough. Let's get you the answer.
The Evaluation Itself
Developed by Lindley Cherry, LCMHC, QS, NCC, the Cherry Adult ADHD-Autism Diagnostic Interview is a clinical evaluation method designed specifically for identifying ADHD, autism, and co-occurring presentations (AuDHD) in adults.
Key Features
- Built for adults, not borrowed from kids. This is a true adult evaluation, not a childhood ADHD or autism tool stretched to fit grown adults. It accounts for how neurodivergence actually shows up after years of adapting, masking, and compensating.
- Culturally responsive, with a women-centered lens. I overlay the Women-Centered ADHD Treatment (W-CAT) model to catch the nuanced, internalized ways ADHD presents in women and women of color, presentations that standard tools routinely miss or misread as anxiety, depression, or PTSD.
- Strengths-based, not deficit-based. The goal is to understand how your brain actually works, mapping your strengths alongside your challenges, not reducing you to a list of things you're "failing" at.
Additional Information
- Evaluations are conducted entirely by telehealth, so you can take part from anywhere in Virginia or Florida.
- Fee covers the time taken for evaluation interview, all additional time spent completing documentation or related tasks, and follow-up session.
- A thorough review of your information is cross-examined with common misdiagnoses then compared to DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria.
- Each evaluation is self-pay at $1,150, with no insurance hurdles and no months-long waitlist.
- You'll receive a comprehensive written diagnostic report, typically within 10 business days, suitable for medication-management conversations, workplace and academic accommodations, and ADA documentation.
- At the follow-up session, your provider will discuss their findings and provide a copy of the evaluation for your records.
What an Accurate Answer Actually Changes
A lot of adults reach me after years of assuming they were lazy, or too sensitive, or just bad at things other people handle easily. An accurate evaluation replaces that story with a real one.
Understanding how your brain works, not just where it struggles, opens up options that actually fit: a productive conversation with a prescriber, accommodations at work or school, therapy aimed at the right target, or simply the relief of having language for your own experience.
I evaluate as a neurodivergent clinician who knows firsthand what it's like to move through the world without answers, and I specialize in the adults the standard system routinely misses, particularly women and people of color, who get underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed by tools that were never built with them in mind.
Whether you want clarity for yourself, documentation for accommodations, or just to stop wondering, that's what this is for.
Packages and Pricing
I specialize in adult neurodivergence and built this process specifically for adults (18+) who suspect they have ADHD, are autistic, or both. There are two ways to do your evaluation, pick whichever fits how you function best.

One three-hour evaluation, completed in a single day. Your report is ready within 10 business days.

This package includes:
- Two, 90-minute sessions to complete the clinical evaluation
- One, clinical document that can be used for accommodations, medication management, or your own personal use.
- One, thirty-minute virtual appointment to go over the findings

Working With Me
Hi, I'm Katherine Illgen, LCSW. I evaluate as someone who has been on the other side of the question, wondering why things felt harder than they seemed to for everyone else. That experience is a big part of why I do this work, and why I do it the way I do.
I have specialty training in neurodivergent assessment, including certification in the Cherry Adult ADHD-Autism Diagnostic Interview and the Women-Centered ADHD Treatment (W-CAT) model. What you can expect from me is straightforwardness, a process that respects your time, and a report written to actually be useful once it leaves my hands.
How The Evaluation Process Works
Initial
Contact
We start with a phone call to select a date(s) and time(s) that work with your schedule.
Prepare for the Evaluation
Have a quiet, private spot and a stable internet connection. Be comfortable, bring whatever helps, water, snacks, a fidget, whatever keeps you settled.
The Evaluation
Three hours in one day, or 90 minutes across two days. I'll ask a lot of questions. There are no wrong answers, and "I don't know" is a perfectly good one.
Follow-Up
About 10 business days later, we meet for a 30-minute virtual session where I review the findings, hand off your report, and answer your questions.
Frequently Asked Questions About The Evaluation
If you don't find the answer you are looking for, feel free to book a consultation to ask me directly.
Can I get an adult ADHD or autism evaluation by telehealth?
Yes. I conduct evaluations entirely by telehealth for adults anywhere in Virginia and Florida. You take part from your own private, comfortable space, no driving to an office.
I've been told before that it was "just anxiety" or "just depression." Why would this be different?
Because ADHD and autism in adults, especially in women and people of color, are routinely mistaken for anxiety, depression, or PTSD. I specifically screen for those overlaps instead of stopping at the first easy explanation, and I use a women-centered framework built to catch the masked, internalized presentations that standard tools miss. If you've been handed the wrong answer before, getting the right one is the whole point.
Does insurance cover this evaluation?
No. This evaluation is self-pay at $1,150 and is not billable to or reimbursable by insurance in most cases. A non-refundable $150 deposit holds your appointment, and the remaining balance is due at the start of the evaluation. The upside of self-pay: no insurance authorization, and no months-long waitlist to get an answer.
What's the difference between this and a full neuropsychological evaluation?
A neuropsychological evaluation is a longer, psychologist-administered battery of cognitive tests, often costing several thousand dollars with long waits. This is a focused diagnostic evaluation for ADHD and autism, conducted by a licensed clinician with specialty training in neurodivergent assessment, and built around DSM-5-TR criteria. It's designed to give you a clear diagnosis and usable documentation without the cost and wait of full neuropsych testing. If cognitive testing turns out to be what you actually need, I'll tell you.
What if I need to reschedule?
Your deposit holds your appointment, and you can reschedule with 48 hours' notice within 30 days. Without 48 hours' notice, or a no-show, you forfeit the deposit unless it's a genuine emergency (accident, death in the immediate family, and similar).
Do you offer evaluations for children?
Nope. We do not offer evaluations for children. The evaluation tool used is specifically designed for adults and is not applicable or transferrable to children.
Do I need to stop seeing my current therapist?
Not at all. If you'd like, I'll coordinate with your therapist to share the findings.
Is there an age requirement?
This evaluation is for adults 18 and over. The tool is built around adult criteria, much of which involves managing life independently, so it works best for adults who have had some real-world experience running their own day-to-day. If you've never lived independently, the evaluation can still be useful, we just account for that in how it's interpreted. I do not evaluate children.
What can I do with the report?
Your written report is suitable for medication-management conversations with a prescriber, accommodation requests at work or school, and ADA documentation. Some people simply want it for their own understanding, which is completely valid. Before I release anything, I review the findings with you and confirm where the report is going.
